And some more bits and pieces...

This is a somewhat random post, for since my return from my lovely visit to Belgium, being tired, I fell foul of some mutating bug that gave me flu and assorted similar ailments and has, even now, left my energy levels low, but to misquote John Paul Jones, ''We wont give up the ship...yet!'' Grin. Or should that be gibbous grin?

But, it has been a while, so here in no particular order are some more pictures to look at from the present and the past.

The following were done for a Le Grimoire book project. That is three were, as one was deemed unsuitable to meet the text, but I show it off anyway.

Some old hand fans might realise one of these is a sort of reworking of an older piece I did for another book.

Now a few older pieces. First a Zombie Knight.

A 'new' version of Zagor the Warlock, but the next will be even more different.

Above we have an old three page annual job done in the early 1980's for D.C. Thomson. I've added it here for those interested in technique really, as it is all done with an inked brush. I would like to add that I was not responsible for the colour choice or the job that was added to the original B/W art.

Lastly, some work for Luke Crane and Thor Ovalsrud's new Torchbearer project.

70'S AND ON ...

I promised a quick[ish] blog post and here it is, all before the up and coming Trolls and Legends convention in Mons, Belgium where I will be visiting a couple of tables for signings and showing off some original work  as well as, like last time, adding some pieces for display to the artists gallery.

Now onto some old pieces from the 1970's in no particular order [organised as I am].
The first is a 'sketch' [it was done on tracing paper with a felt pen in 1974, according to the date].

You'll guess the subject if you think about it [grin].

Next comes an interior illustration, which like the next two, has a Science Fiction theme.
Sorry about the quality but I only have a faded photocopy to show.

Below is a slightly cropped copy of the original art for a Graphic/Comic fanzine called 'Graphic Sense'. 

It shows one of my robot designs of that period. 

It dates, thanks to a coloured version I found on ebay [see link below] to August !979.

 Above is the cover for a fanzine called 'Border Ruffian', which is dated 1978.

Finally, for this post from the 70's [or early 80's] is a more comic version of 'The knight and the dragon'. From what and why? No idea, but maybe somebody can help out like before.

 Before we leave [cough] the 1970's, {Heavens, I'm beginning to sound like an old film travelogue [grin]} and mentioning ebay I will remark that Anduril 6, from August 1976, is available there [again]. Personally I doubt the inclusion of original art, but what do I know?  For those interested [or not] here is the cover [again] ...

and of course, the art was shown in an earlier post. What I do know is the original art is not available, mainly because it's lost or misplaced [read stolen].

How to rough it ... an example

Thanks to Atom, I'm going to post one of my rough sketches for an image I did for Le Grimoire's Lone Wolf .. http://www.legrimoire.net/images/russ-nicholson.htm though the rough went through various changes, including 'corrections' from the client it was actually completed using a graphic tablet.

Other little jobs included this 'Kurtok', for New Zealand, and a few more Spurgers for Space madness.

A harbour from ye old Fabled Lands ...and a Kabuki theatre.

Now some real old pieces, that last appeared in the American fanzine, Copper Toadstool 5, published in 1979.

Finally, a couple of Spacey bits to add to my space posts ... and to whet any appetites for such ... added again, because he wanted to see roughs. Though no claims the final work will be much of an improvement. lol
