Update - Monde du Jeu: Paris

Being Mr Efficiency [cough, cough] I've yet to find my camera in my bag and attempt to retrieve the pictures I took. However, others have been been able to send a few more and I'll add some of these below.
Sebastien [Le Grimoire] Angelique 'Rebel' [Manga BoyZ] and Pierre

Authors [Gabriel Feraud, Manga BoyZ], and [Joe Dever, Lone Wolf] while the poor artist slaves on...
Gun toting Manga Boyz model gets my attention, and all she wants is a little drawing
One of the things Joe Dever and I were asked to do was a presentation and talk, supported by a PowerPoint presentation about the Lone Wolf series and examples of some of my work. Not all went to plan, even though Sophie and Paul did an excellent job trying to smoothly interpret my mumblings, for not all the pictures in the presentation were shown. Below are some that were missed [or not enough time was allowed to show them of].
From the Goldhawk series by Ian Livingston

Below are two illustrations supporting a major new fantasy series by horror writer David Wellington.  He's best known for his book "Zombie Island" and his vampire series. The website will be a "multimedia-rich interactive site to support his new series, featuring maps, videos, an interactive glossary and much more".

Below are two related pieces for Calific.com. First for the 'Sickly Purple Death Ray' blogspot and the second is the half page backcover for 'Marooned across Space and Time' book1 - the first installment in the forthcoming 'World of Yezmyr' series of science fantasy themed adventure modules.

Went back to my roots with this private commission, which shows a 'reworking' of the Githyanki and Githzerai who first appeared in TSR's 'The Fiend Folio'.
More to post later.

  2. Wheeee!! I'm one of Russ's followers! ... Yes, the presentation we did at the Monde du Jeu didn't go absolutely to plan. Next time round, we could quite easily spend 30 minutes just on you, talking people through picture after picture. At least we get to see the unshown pictures here.

For the text under each picture here, I'm getting a vertical string of text instead of actual words. Is that just my browser?

So... how do I change my all-new 'follower name' to something cooler...?

  3. Hi Paul, Good to hear from you and to 'read' you're now a follower! I usually have a hell of a job sorting out a 'post'! Note the the gaps and little squares running through this post, so to ask me such technical questions ... you're having a laugh.

'Vertical string of text'...mmm is that a case of video streaming :)?

Maybe a more experienced blogger will help out ..Please, can anyone help Paul?

  4. Hello Russ! I am (finally!) "exploring" your blog and it is fantastic! (who cares about minor technical mishaps?) You're right about the Salon, it's a shame more of your pictures couldn't be shown, but everyone did their best I think, including Pierre.
More and more pictures of the Salon are appearing on the Internet, I'll make sure to send them to you :)

  5. On last saturday at the Monde du Jeu, the talk between Russ, Joe, Paul and Sophie ( sorry for being so familiar... ) was shortened, as the precedent event ended at least ten minutes late, and it was also a bit overshadowed by some noisy battle that occurred in the arena at the same time. Considering these problems, your performance was not so bad... The audience was there, attentive and interested. The only disappointment : it was way too short, Messrs Nicholson and Dever being so rare in France.

Concerning the technical problem with the blog endured by Paul, it doesn't happen on my computer, using Chrome and Internet Explorer. Maybe some unforeseen Manga Boyz effect on your web browser ?

    M. Nicholson, some of the comments under your pictures are hilarious ! And your drawings still so impressive.

  8. The biggest problem with the presentation at the Monde du Jeu, really, was that we weren't given enough time to do it properly. We had just 30 minutes for both Joe and Russ - translation time included - when we could quite happily have chatted to each one for an hour. Consequently, I ended up veering all over the place with my questions just to try to pack in some of the more fun information.

As for the unforeseen Manga BoyZ tech problem - yes, I'm pretty sure that the photo of Angelique in cowboy regalia has blown my computer circuitry...

  9. To Sophie and Paul, I'd like to thank you both for your all your help and friendship during our time in Paris, you made a stranger in a strange land feel at home.
I have to ask you Paul, has your computer ciruitry now cooled down and is now behaving itself?

I fully understand about the presentation, and having been sent a copy of the PowerPoint presentation by Pierre I now realise what happened with what I thought was a 'delay' in the pictures being shown. There was no delay, simply, as you pointed out Paul, a lack of real time.

One thing I do realise, that being the third interview of the day, was I was just getting the hang of 'replying' when it all ended, and some of my replies [on reflection] especially in regard to 'beginnings' were a load of twaddle
    in some respects.

I'll probably be doing at least two more posts about Paris before I bring it all to an end. Including showing a few of the art 'doodles' that I did, and I intend to include some work given to me by an artist I met there.

But, I'm fighting the 'lurgy' so it may be a few days yet.

Thanks again for all your comments.

  13. Great to see the Githyanki versus Githzerai picture! Fond memories.

Looking forward to seeing more of your artwork. I was (and still am) a huge fan of your work for the Fighting Fantasy series.
